Granivore Mix Feed Supplement for use with a wide range of birds. A complete food for rearing or supplementing granivorous birds that have a large proportion of carbohydrate in their diet. This includes parrots, cockatoos, lorikeets, finches, doves, and pigeons.

To feed as a supplement: Mix 4 teaspoons of Granivore Rearing Mix with 1 diced banana or apple. Prepare fresh food daily. Mix 1 teaspoon of breadcrumbs with 1 mashed hard-boiled egg. Add 4 teaspoons of Granivore Rearing Mix and gently turn into a crumbly mass. Prepare fresh daily.
To feed as pellets: Mix about 2 teaspoons of water to 6 teaspoons of Granivore Rearing Mix. Slowly add the water and mix to a putty like consistency. Small pieces can be broken from the prepared mix and rolled into pellets for feeding. This mixture is essentially a 'dry' food so birds should be given about 1ml of water per 5g of pellets fed. Prepare fresh daily.
Feeding chicks from newly hatched using a spoon or syringe and tube: The first feed of the day for three days should be a quality yoghurt with a high live organism count. Next feed the following using pre-boiled water heated to about 50C.
Allow prepared mixture to stand for 2 minutes to absorb all the water. Remix and if too thick reheat the mixture and add a little water to make the desired consistency. Bring the prepared food to 35C and feed with a spoon or syringe till the crop is full taking care not to introduce food into the windpipe.
Feed prepared Granivore Rearing Mix 4 to 6 times daily when chicks are very young reducing this to 3 or 4 feeds per day as the chick gets older. Feed small amounts frequently and allow the crop to completely empty at least once a day. Thoroughly clean utensils before food preparation. Food must be prepared fresh each meal. Discard all uneaten food.
Note: This mixture contains particulate material and is digested more slowly than the creamy baby cereal preparations. Syringe hubs should be bored out to 3mm and fitted with a soft PVC tube of 3mm ID and 4mm OD.
