Passwell Finch Soft Food is a high protein breeding supplement enriched with omega 3 & 6, vitamins and minerals.

Finches are mainly granivorous birds and in the wild spend much of their time foraging for seed. Native grasses, shrubs and trees provide a diversity of nutrient compositions not available in the cereal grains that aviculturists feed to their finches. Many of the seeds that captive finches eat are either low in protein or deficient in one or more of the essential amino acids. In the wild finches compensate for low or poor quality protein intake by supplementing their diet with insects.

Aviculturalists often feed mealworms, fly pupae or termites to their finches during the breeding season. These insects are not always available and because they have a fairly high fat content are not necessarily the best source of animal protein for many finches.

Passwell Finch Soft Food is a unique product prepared from ingredients high in essential amino acids and contains added vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients to provide an ideal alternative to insects.

Passwell Finch Soft Food is a concentrated, highly digestible source of animal protein suitable for all finches, waxbills, weavers, whydahs, and soft bills.

Directions for use:

To prepare a moist crumbly soft food slowly add warm water to the powder while mixing. Prepare food fresh for each day. We do not advise storing prepared food in the fridge overnight as it can become contaminated with microorganisms. Fresh is best.

Feed prepared Finch Soft Food as a supplement with insects or as a complete substitute for insects. Introduce prepared food in small quantities until it is accepted. Fussy birds can be enticed to eat this food by mixing a few small insects of other treat with the food.

Non-breeding birds:
  • Small finches and waxbills - 1 heaped teaspoon of prepared food per five birds daily.
  • Large finches, weavers, and whydahs - 1 heaped teaspoon of prepared food per pair of birds daily.
  • Wrens, robins, chats - 1 heaped teaspoon of prepared food per pair of birds daily
  • Whistlers and woodswallows - 2 heaped teaspoons of prepared food per paid of birds daily.
Breeding birds:

Once breeding has begun offer as much prepared feed as the birds will eat. When the chicks have fully fledged reduce the amount back to a heaped teaspoon per pair per day. After the moult feed the amounts suggested for non-breeding birds.

  • Parrots and lorikeets - 1 to 2 teaspoons per pair of birds per day
