Budgie Starter supplement is a high protein conditioning food enriched with omega 3 & 6, vitamins and minerals.
In the wild budgies feed their chicks a high protein diet of seeds, fruits, and insects. Generally the seeds of native plants provide a superior nutrient composition to those of most cereal grains fed by budgie breeders.
Budgie owners traditionally supplement their breeding birds with a selection of foods such as soaked seed, egg and biscuit products and a range of home-made recipes. Unfortunately birds do not select for a healthy diet from a mixture of foods, they pick out those they prefer. A breeding supplement for budgies needs to provide a balanced mix of nutrients in a single food to avoid favorite food selection.
Millet and canary seed are low quality protein foods because they are deficient in several essential amino acids. Adding an animal based protein to the food of breeding budgies will not only increase the quantity of dietary protein but will greatly improve its quality. Breeding budgies need a supplement that contains a higher level of better quality protein than normal seed diet.
Passwell Budgie Starter is a nutritionally balanced, high protein soft food. It is prepared from ingredients high in essential amino acids and contains added vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients to provide a complete diet for budgie chicks.
Using Budgie Starter
To prepare a moist crumbly soft food slowly add warm water to the powder while mixing. Prepare food fresh for each day. We do not advise storing prepared food in the fridge overnight as it can become contaminated with microorganisms. Fresh is best.
Feed a heaped teaspoon of prepared feed per bird per week about 1 month before budgies are paired for breeding. First time users should introduce Budgie Starter in small quantities until the birds accept it. Fussy birds can be enticed to eat this food by mixing small amounts of soaked seed or other treat in the prepared food. Once the birds are paired, offer a heaped teaspoon of prepared Budgie Starter every day to each pair of budgies.
After the hen lays, offer as much prepared Budgie Starter as the birds will eat. Continue to feed as much as the birds will eat until the chicks have fledged. Feed one heaped teaspoon of prepared Budgie Starter per pair per day after fledging and up till the first moult. After the moult revery to feeding one or two heaped teaspoons per week to each pair of budgies.
Budgie Starter is an ideal soft food for other small parrots such as Neophemas, red-rumps, hooded and mulga parrots.
